How Ugandan customs clearance works, what documents you need, and how duties and taxes are calculated.
The Clearance Process
Customs clearance verifies your goods, assesses duties and taxes, and releases your shipment. With complete paperwork, this typically takes 24 to 72 hours.
Documents You Need
Prepare a Bill of Lading or Air Waybill, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, and an Import Declaration Form. Missing documents are the most common cause of delays.
How Duties Are Calculated
Duties are based on the CIF value of your goods, the HS code classification, and the applicable rate, usually between 0 and 25 percent. VAT of 18 percent is then applied.
Working with Experts
A clearing partner who knows the Uganda Revenue Authority process removes the guesswork, prevents costly errors, and keeps your goods moving.
